Joe Lu is a Managing Director of the Firm. He has more than 16 years of experience investing across the capital structure of Middle Market Companies. Joe joined HMC in 2015 as a Senior Vice President responsible for sourcing and investing in debt and equity securities in the energy, industrials, automotive, and healthcare sectors. Since early 2017, Joe has been an integral part of the HMC Private Credit team, developing relationships with private equity sponsors, sourcing deal flow, and executing financing transactions for Middle Market Companies.

Prior to joining HMC, Joe spent seven years as a Partner and a Portfolio Manager at MAST Capital Management, a Boston-based hedge fund focused on middle market companies. He directly sourced and invested nearly $2 billion of credit and equity investments. During his tenure as a Portfolio Manager, the firm invested over $4 billion into Middle Market Companies in North America and Western Europe. Joe served as a member of the Investment Committee and Risk Committee at MAST Capital Management.

Before joining MAST, Joe spent four years as a Senior Analyst at Kamunting Street Capital Management investing across the capital structure of public and private companies. Joe began his career investing in project finance and high yield securities in the Municipal Group at Merrill Lynch Investment Managers, focusing on merchant power, utilities, and gaming/leisure sectors. Joe graduated cum laude from Colgate University with a BA in Economics and is a CFA Charterholder.
